Mission Statement

The Baton Rouge Linux User Group's (BRLUG) mission is to advocate the use of Linux both in the home and the enterprise, to support the existing base of Linux users in the city of Baton Rouge, and to have a great time. In addition, we encourage our members to use the LUG as a platform for forming both non-profit and for-profit organizations to better establish Linux within the community. As such, we welcome both business and hobbyists discussions at our meetings and on our mailing list.

Membership in BRLUG is free and meetings are open to anyone, including non-Linux users. Regular meetings will cover the Internet, gaming, graphics, and more. Learn more by reading our FAQ, contacting the group, joining our mailing list, or by attending a meeting.

The LUG is managed by Dustin Puryear of Puryear IT, LLC, a consulting firm in Baton Rouge that specializes in Identity Management, LDAP, and Linux.

Hanging Out with the Lug!

The daily hang-out for members of the LUG is on the Freenode IRC Network at irc.freenode.net. We usually sit in the channel #brlug. So come on by and have a chat--well, if anyone is at their keyboard!

We also meet at Perks once a month. Coffee and bandwidth. Could you ask for more? Here are some random shots of LUG victims.. uh, members at Perks on Perkins:

Help Us Push Open Source in Libraries

The Baton Rouge Linux User Group has started a new project named the Free Open Source Software in Libraries Everyone (FOSSILE). The goal? To get free and open software on the shelves of libraries! To learn more about the project visit the project homepage at fossile-project.sf.net.

Muy Importante! Join our mailing lists!

Talking and helping via our mailing lists are the core activity of the Baton Rouge Linux User Group. The reason? We are all very busy and we only meet once or twice a month. So most of our communication and helpful hints are done through our lists.

If you have questions, want to talk about Linux, UNIX, or FreeBSD, or just in general want to get your geek on then join the general mailing list. Even more important though is that you subscribe to the announcements mailing list. The announcements mailing list can only be posted to by officers of the LUG, and is the primary method used to communicate important dates of events (also available via the events page), and important changes in the group.
