[brluglist] Linux at work

Some thing interesting happened yesterday.
The manager of the systems group where I work came to me and started asking
questions
about Linux and how could we use it in stead of NT. It seems that Microsoft
is going to start
charging an annual fee to use future versions of NT and this guy does not
like that one bit.
We talked about using Linux on the ftp servers and the intranet server
thinking these would
be the easiest to get up and running. We did do some testing of Linux on a
Dell server
running an Informix database last summer and found that we got much greater
(2X)
performance than on our Sun server and SQL Server on NT.
Anyway, I suggested going to a BRLUG meeting to get more information and he
agreed.
We can't make the May meeting but we will be there in June.
