Yeah, I've heard similar stories in the past. Did you install the recovery
console? You can boot to that and probably troubleshoot your problem.
Otherwise, boot from the CD and do the same. This is kinda, sorta similar
to booting into single-user mode under UNIX, albeit with not nearly the
same level of tools.
