I'm at work and missing the previous messages in this thread, if I remember correctly your problem sounded like one I had - I used the following KB from Symantec to fix it (you may have already tried this, sorry if I'm beating a dead horse).  I ended up having to manually update LiveUpdate (#3 under solution) so it could do its thing.

I have the box checked "Never Dial A Connection".  I set-up a default "Broaband" connection, THAT doesn't seem to help Norton find it's site.
 
I re-registered the product with no trouble at all.  Norton FOUND that connection, but still won't recognize the broadband connection to "update" my SystemWorks.
 
I promise NEVER to buy or promote Norton Products again.  They have become like M$, they sux.
